Change the world

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s (NMMU) academic and residence admissions processes are well on track, with the bulk of first year applicants in possession of their firm acceptance offers.

Academic admissions

For academic admissions, the majority of applications for which the complete set of results were received have been finalised. To date, 9982 applications have been accepted, compared to 9644 at the same period last year. Of these, 7554 are for first-time entering students.

The admissions office is busy processing about 700 late applications received last week during the late application window period as well as those of students requesting to change their chosen programmes. For the latter, students have until Friday, January 20, to apply.

Residence admissions

Student Housing has reported that all first year students, except those who have been referred for access testing or have outstanding results, have been notified of their residence applications.

More than 870 first year students are expected to start moving into Port Elizabeth campus residences on Friday, while the figure stands at 180 for the George campus. More than 200 international first-time entrants are accommodated at accredited off-campus residences.

Returning students are still being notified of their status as their complete results are received.

Access Testing

Access testing at remote sites has been finalised, with those in Port Elizabeth fast filling up as the process draws to a close. To date, 5969 applicants have been tested – 2281 tested in PE and 3688 at remote sites.

Online registration for senior students opened on Monday, January 16, with more than 1000 students having taken up the opportunity to date.
