The IAEP programme identifies Mandela University as a forward-thinking university that recognises the importance of the internal audit profession as a career choice. It also shows the University’s commitment to support an internal audit curriculum, according to the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) international guidance pronouncements.
The University’s Department of Applied Accounting offers the Postgraduate Diploma Internal Auditing (PGDIA) and hosts the Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP) programme.
The IAEP programme was developed to respond to the growing interest in internal audit education at institutions of higher learning and addresses the need for students who possess a well-rounded skill set for conducting internal auditing, says Dr Mario Labuschagne, senior lecturer and IAEP programme coordinator in the Department of Applied Accounting.
The programme prepares students with the skills and knowledge to help them conduct basic internal audits immediately upon hire, as well as provide a foundation to begin preparing for the Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) examination.
IAEP programme schools teach an internal auditing curriculum within a degree programme (undergraduate or postgraduate) endorsed by the IIA. These schools have gone through a rigorous application process and are monitored by the IIA’s Academic Relations Team (ART).
Benefits for Mandela University include the accreditation and rankings, exposure with companies adding to the overall placement of students in the job force and opportunities for academic collaboration with leading universities.
Students can have confidence in the quality of their university’s internal auditing programme and network with peers from other universities, as well being exposed to international exchange opportunities.
Employers can have confidence in the direct application of internal audit course work for students who have participated in an IAEP programme.
