Maluleke takes up the new position from February 2022.
Prof Maluleke’s contribution to society is a notable one, with his numerous thought pieces making accessible his years of research that has seen him recognised as a rated researcher by the National Research Foundation.
Prof Maluleke is a leading and internationally-acclaimed researcher, specialising in Black and African theologies. He has written extensively on the respective topics in mainstream media, and has built a formidable reputation as a political and social commentator.
Prof Maluleke was awarded a B1 rating by the NRF in January 2018, and became a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Scholarship at the University of Pretoria in April of that year. He is also an elected member of the Academy of Science for South Africa.
As part of his service to broader society, he has served on the boards of the NRF and the MTN-SA Foundation.
Acknowledging the massive responsibility that comes with the appointment, it is admirable that Prof Maluleke recognises the challenges in the higher education sector, committing to help make TUT the most innovative, vibrant and exciting place to work and study.
