The Brass Congress will be presented at the Nelson Mandela University Music Department from April 25 to 28, in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra.

Featuring Jarret McCourt, international tuba artist and Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, this event is open to brass players, teachers, enthusiasts, community musicians, and amateur and professional musicians of all ages and levels.

A series of engaging sessions will cover topics such as ensemble playing, instrument maintenance, breathing for brass playing, warm-ups, routines, and master classes and workshops.

Workshop times:

  • April 25: 15:00-18:00
  • April 26: 14:00-18:00
  • April 27: 09:00-17:00

The congress culminates in a captivating concert on April 28 at 18:00 at the South Campus Auditorium (Nelson Mandela University), featuring McCourt, the Virtual-So Tuba/Euph Quartet, and congress participants.

As a bonus, participants will receive a complimentary ticket to the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Friends in Low Places” concert on April 28 at the Feather Market Centre, where McCourt will showcase the rarely-performed Ralph Vaughan Williams Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra in F Minor.

Secure your spot for this exceptional event at R300 per person, which includes access to all sessions and materials, as well as the Friends in Low Places ticket.
