The University is awaiting formal communication of the protesting students’ grievances, which are understood to centre around financial aid matters that are posing a challenge to some students’ ability to register, particularly the returning cohort.
While huge strides have been made in this regard, as communicated internally on Friday afternoon and evidenced by the more 25 500 students who are presently registered, there remain a few outstanding issues that will hopefully be addressed by the National Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) this week.
In the interim, staff and students are advised to continue operations and learning and teaching activities remotely, as far as possible, as Management engages the protesting students on the grievances to be formally outlined.
Nelson Mandela University reiterates its ongoing commitment to ensure that all admitted students are registered for the 2022 academic year. Those who have not yet been able to register for various reasons are encouraged to attend classes until they are able to do so. This will ensure that students do not fall behind on the year’s academic activities due to the present challenges.
The University remains resolute in its commitment to ensure access to academically deserving students.
