Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP: Nelson Mandela University Alumni, Tolika Sibiya (33) and Chumisa Ndlazi (27) have been included in the prestigious 2019 Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans list. 

Tolika, currently a PhD candidate at Wits University, completed his undergraduate (2011) and master’s studies (2016) at Mandela University. He was chosen in the Education category.

“My goal is to be part of the academia and young intelligentsia that society needs to solve its problems,” he says. “I want to help contribute to knowledge production, especially in the education sector, particularly around the thorny issue of skills and unemployment among the youth. I want to contribute to issues relating to industrial growth and transformation, and youth development.”

Chumisa, completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Media, Communication and Culture in 2013 and is currently a Marketing & Communications Practitioner at the CSIR. She was chose in the Science & Technology category. The ability to make science accessible to the layman is why Chumisa is so good at her job, where she makes research understandable and winning good media coverage around the world for her organisation.

The annual feature of 200 eminent Young South Africans (people between the ages of 18-35) has become a hallmark of the M&G calendar, and is now in its 13th year. A listing in the 200 YSA supplement is now a feature of the best CVs in the country.

Since 2006, the supplement has featured 200 young South Africans on course to touch the world with their greatness.
