Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP: Students from the Department of Quantity Surveying won all three of the 2019 Association of South African Quantity Surveying (ASAQS) Awards. The awards were presented at a gala event in Cape Town earlier this month.

Janita Verwey, a third year student, won the Turner & Townsend Great Outcomes Award by obtaining an average of 85,5% in her second year of undergraduate study.

Honour student, Michael Venter received the ASAQS Future Leader Award by obtaining his undergraduate qualification cum laude with a weighted average of 84,4%. Michael also received the Dean’s Award for the School of the Built Environment for the 2018 academic year.

Mylan Jonas, an honours QS graduate, was presented with the Gold Medal Award of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors for his outstanding academic achievements and personal qualities that promise to positively contribute to the profession. Emphasise on community engagement projects while studying were also a key factor for this award.

Mylan obtained an average of 87,1% and 84,7% for both degrees respectively and passed 36 of the 38 registered modules with distinctions over his four year period of studies. He also received the ASAQS Future Leader Award in 2018.  Mylan has become the fifth student in the history of the Department of Quantity Surveying to receive this prestigious award.
