Change the world

Engagement with protesting students, the SRC and University Management is presently underway following the blockade of entrances to North and South campuses early this morning.  A memo to Port Elizabeth staff and students to use alternative learning platforms was also issued.

Subsequently, the situation remains calm as student protestors begin to disperse, following the serving and reading of a court interdict.  The interdict is to protect the rights of all University stakeholders; those who wish to access the University to work and/or pursue their studies; as well as those wishing to exercise their right to protest in accordance with the conditions stipulated in the interdict.

A memorandum from the protesting students, focusing mainly on general security concerns on and off campus, has been received and is under discussion, albeit that they are already being addressed.  The University has also planned a meeting with SAPS around policing and other addition measures towards improved security.
