Gelvandale High School learners in the lab with Dr Melanie Pereira
Funded by CHIETA SETA, the programme is designed to spark interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers by empowering school learners with foundational knowledge and hands-on skills essential for success in science-related fields.
A key focus of the programme is to create meaningful and engaging experiences with science through interactive, practical learning approaches.
Delivered by Dr Melanie Pereira, the programme includes Saturday morning sessions over four weeks for Grade 9 learners and eight weeks for Grade 10 and 11 learners. Sessions are held at the school from 9:00 to 12:00 and expose learners to fundamental laboratory techniques, data analysis, presentation, and interpretation.
As part of this initiative, IMBiosciences brought participating learners to recently visit the University campus. This visit offered learners an opportunity to experience the environment, interact with scientists, and reinforce their learning through exposure to real-world applications of science in action.
