Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP: Hats off to Bukiwe Tiyane, a third year Bachelor of Arts (Language & Literature) student who has had one of her poems published in the official University of South Africa (UNISA) Study Guide for African language students.

The poem, entitled "Isililo Senkedama" has been included in the Applied African Languages Literature for Home Language Foundation Phase IsiXhosa study guide in the Department of African Languages at UNISA – prescribed for thousands of students around the country.

Bukiwe started writing short stories, essays and poetry in 2009. She is part of the "Izikhuthali zesiXhosa" group which won "The Best Original Performance Act" at Mandela University's Campus Life Concert in 2018. She has also had poems published online at PoetrySoup and Poem Hunter and has had a short story published on FunDza.

Mlamli Diko, a former Mandela University student, poetry editor, and now lecturer in isiXhosa at UNISA saw Bukiwe performing at the Kraal in 2017 and requested some of her poems since they have so much quality and richness in isiXhosa. From the poems she sent, they chose and approved "Isililo senkedama" to be part of their curriculum.
