The Fifth Volume Yearbook of South African Law has just been printed, overseen by Nelson Mandela University’s Faculty of Law and with Professor Mark Tait from Mercantile Law as managing editor.

In 2020 Juta approached the former executive dean of the faculty, Professor Avinash Govindjee (now Judge Govindjee), with the request for the faculty to manage a new project – the establishment of the Yearbook of South African Law.

The Yearbook, published annually, provides an update of developments that occurred in specific areas of the law during the year under review, focusing on the latest legislative developments as well as the judgements handed down in that year, sauys Prof Tait.

The chapters are contributed by specialists in their respective areas, mostly academics from various universities, but also contributors from private practice.

These specialists provide insightful analyses and commentary on recent developments adding significant value over and above merely reporting the developments, thus providing a valuable tool to legal scholars, the judiciary and legal profession, as well as students.

Each volume addresses areas of the law ranging from Administrative Law to Taxation.

The Yearbook is honoured to have an advisory board consisting of the following judges: Chief Justice Mandisa Maya, (who also holds an honorary doctorate from Nelson Mandela University), Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga (Judge of the Constitutional Court, now retired), Justice Glenn Goosen (Judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal), and Justice Avinash Govindjee (Judge of the High Court, Eastern Cape Division).
