This year’s theme "The Well Within" and MC Dr Ayanda Simayi, invited the University community to pause, reflect, and reconnect with their inner resilience, mental health and leadership potential.

“Every woman holds a deep well of wisdom, courage, and resilience. Yet the demands of daily life often leave little time to draw from this source of renewal, “said Prof Muthwa.
Over 500 women gathered in the Indoor Sports Centre, at the lunch time event, to be celebrated and pay homage to the South African women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on August 9, 1956, fighting for freedom.
The women who were encouraged to “come as they are”, were entertained by singer Thokozile Makamba, held their breath in anticipation of the lucky draw prizes and enjoyed socialising over the lunch provided.

A panel discussion, facilitated by Director: Madibaz Sport Vuyo Bongela, spoke to the gift of time, living with renewed energy, supporting each other as women and urged the women to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.
The expert panel included; Occupational Therapist Thembakazi Silo, Clinical Psychologist Prema Balakisten, Gynaecologist Dr Gary Solomon and Prof Sibongile Muthwa, who besides her VC title, has a background in social work.

Furthermore, Prof Muthwa pledged to advocate to have this Women’s Day celebration, included to the university’s institutional calendar, as an annual event.
