Change the world

A total of more than 9 000 visitors attended Mandela University's recent Open Days on its Gqeberha and George campuses with staff, students and volunteers' dedication and hard work contributing to its resounding success.

The Gqeberha Open Day on 16 and 17 May welcomed some 8000 visitors, including 60 organised school groups, individual learners along with their parents and guardians from various schools, and also existing students interested in pursuing postgraduate studies at the institution next year.

It was particularly encouraging to see that the student recruitment team’s engagements with schools in outlying areas has increased our reach beyond the metro, with schools attending from as far as Idutwa, Umthatha, Somerset East, Bedford, and St Thomas Special School, to mention a few.

In George on 23 and 24 May, we welcomed over 1 400 Grade 11 and 12 learners from across the Eden District, providing them with a vital opportunity to explore academic programmes and engage with the vibrant campus spirit.

Postgraduate Powerhour

The success of our first event Postgraduate Power Hour, which allowed for staff from across the institution to engage with current undergraduates, recent graduates, and working professionals seeking to pursue higher studies an opportunity for engagement, also emphasised our collaborative spirit, with excellent support from Executive Deans, Deputy Deans, and lecturers.

Parent information session

Registrar Edgar de Koker took the time to provide invaluable support and words of wisdom to parents navigating their children's university journey during our very popular parent information session.

Winning stalls

It is because of everyone’s collective efforts that we were able to create an engaging and informative experience for thousands of prospective students and their families. In Gqeberha the most interactive stalls' winner was Education, with Law and EBET in second and third place.

Industrial and Organisation Psychology and Human Resources was the winner of the most visually appealing stalls, with Physics second and Media and Communication third.

The most interactive stall winner at the George Campus event was Access and Enrolment, with Tourism second and Nature Nature Conservation, third. Nature Conservation was also the winner as the most visually appealing stall with Wood Technology second and the School of Information Technology, third.

Beyond the impressive numbers, we recognise that the true measure of success lies in the positive experiences created. We are incredibly proud of the collective effort that went into these events.

Again, it is only through the professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication that we are truly able to host these events, and we are proud of the commendable spirit in which staff, students and volunteers exemplified the spirit of Nelson Mandela University.
