Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP: Politics student, Wandile Msomi and Sociology student, Mosa Mdungase recently returned from Ghana where they represented South Africa and our university at the International Youth Diplomacy Conference hosted by the University of Ghana. Both were awarded certificates of Excellence by the IYDC for their sterling efforts.

The International Youth Diplomacy conference is hosted by IFED which is an educational and advocacy NGO that that uses its programmes and projects to empower the lives of people especially, the youth. It is located in Ghana and runs the biggest Youth led conference on the Continent.

At the Conference, Wandile (right) was awarded his certificate of excellence for his presentation on child marriages in Africa and hopes to realise his dream of becoming the youngest secretary-general of the UN.

Mosa, who was recently appointed Senior Programme Specialist for Education by the African Youth Union Commission, said he is on a mission to give all young people an equal shot at education.

While in Ghana they were well treated by staff from the South African Consulate, and also set aside time to help clean an orphanage in Ghana on July 18 in honour of 67 minutes for Nelson Mandela.

In addition to meeting interesting people at the competition, one of the highlights was learning about the diverse cultures of delegates from around Africa and enjoying Ghanaian food.

The South African team of 10 who took part in the conference also included Mandela University Alumnus, Xabiso Dubasi.
