Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP. Mandela University Alumnus and current student, Baxolile Babongile Nodada, was recently sworn in as one of the Democratic Alliance's youngest Members of Parliament in South Africa.

The former SRC member served for three conservative years in 2013,14 & 15, ending his term with the VC's award of SRC Member of the Year in 2015.

In 2016, he was elected as the youngest PR Councillor in Nelson Mandela Bay. He is the Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance's Student Organisation (DASO) in the Eastern Cape and in 2018, graduated from the top 20 Young Leaders Programme where he pioneered his foundation ‘The Brothers Circle’.

Baxolile holds a BA in Politics; Economics and Public Administration, an honours degree in Political Science and is currently completing his master’s in Development Economics with Nelson Mandela University.

When asked how he felt about his new appointment he responded; “I am extremely grateful to the voters of South Africa who voted us in to represent their needs and aspiration. Our mission should always be about creating a culture of caring about the next person whether something affects us individually or not even when no one is watching. The fight is not against our opponents but the harsh realities facing South Africans such as poor education, joblessness, crime and lack of basic services. Our duty is to simply not talk at each other and look popular but talk to each other in mitigating solutions that will redress the legacies of the past, reconcile the country, build on our diversity be it race, religion, gender, ethnicity and deliver prosperity for all South Africans. That’s the conviction I carry on this new journey.”
