Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP: Mandela University Alumnus and former staff member, Curwyn Mapaling, has been selected as one of 150 participants worldwide, to attend the Global Peace Summit in Kenya next month.

GPS Kenya'23 is a prolific journey in which participants will experience self-contemplation and engagement with young people from around the world. “This event calls upon extraordinary, young at heart, diligent, Peace and SDGs enthusiasts with an impressive buffet of exciting competitions.”

Curwyn, who is currently reading towards his PhD in Educational Psychology at Mandela Uni, is a Senior Lecturer at North-West University and a registered clinical psychologist. He has many achievements under his belt including an Abe Bailey Travel Bursary (2014), a Mandela Rhodes Scholarship (2015), a Brightest Young Minds Delegate (2016), a Yenching Global Symposium International Delegate (2016) and a Top 100 Absa GradStar recipient (2020).

At the Summit he will moderate sessions and will act as a panellist. The event will see sessions ranging from the main stage, presentation sessions, diplomatic and policymakers panel talks, social innovation accelerator challenge, etc. It will also highlight cross-cultural exchange, global friendship, self-exploration, leadership development and youth empowerment.
