The Conference is a call for green leadership to promote sustainable campuses in the higher education sector. This year’s theme was “new possibilities of renewable and nonrenewable energy for sustainable campuses”. A total of 19 universities and one TVET college attended the Conference. Students are encouraged to become green and think green, focusing on recycling and its importance to the world.
Mandela Uni’s GCI society members took part in the event’s fashion show, which required them to create outfits using recyclable materials such as paper, plastic and cans. They were unanimously voted as the most creative, using almost only recycled materials.
The GCI team also made a presentation to the conference delegates which was so well received that they were asked by many to share the presentation with them, showing them what we do on our campuses.
“I attended the presentation of another university and the audience was encouraged by the presenters to get hold of Mandela Uni’s presentation to help them improve. Little did they know that I was in the room! I felt so proud to be part of such an inspirational university” said GCI secretary, Sibabaliwe Zwide.
