Reasons to be Proud – R2bP: The Madibaz ladies water polo team have won the SA Nationals and are the first ever all female player and management team to win at this level.

The team recently took part in the Water polo Currie Cup National Champs in East London and proudly brought home the title of SA National Champions.

Madibaz beat UCT in the final, winning 13-6 and avenging their loss to them in the pool stages of the event. UCT were unbeaten until their loss to Madibaz in the final. The team lost to UCT in their first match in the pool stages but won all their remaining matches to annex their first ever Currie Cup title.

On route to the final, Madibaz were victorious against Varsity College, Maties and OJ Eagles in the pool matches which was then followed by beating Mantarays in the quarter final and beating HPP from East London in the semi-final. UCT beat UP-Tuks in the other semi-final.

“This performance and result has been a long time coming.  I have been manager of this code since 2010, and I could not be prouder than what I am now.  This takes extreme resilience and dedication to become National Champions in a sport code, and to do it as an all female team is the absolute icing on the cake.  This is a great achievement and I cannot wait to see where the future of Madibaz Water polo goes” said Madibaz water polo manager, Melinda Goosen.
