Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP: Madibaz Sport hockey manager and Coach of the South African men's hockey team, Ches;yn Gie, took the side to international victory in the FIH Hockey Cup on the weekend.
The 2022 Men's FIH Hockey Nations Cup was the first edition of this event, now the annual qualification tournament for the Men's FIH Pro League organised by the International Hockey Federation.

The tournament was held at the North-West University's Astro in Potchefstroom from 28 November to 4 December 2022.

The final against Ireland ended 4-3 in favour of the host nation, resulting in South Africa's promotion to the 2023–24 Men's FIH Pro League.

Hockey has mapped out Coach Cheslyn's career since a young age. After representing his province at school, he graduated to being a formidable player in the EP premier league and represented the then PE Technikon at the very first USSA championships.

One of his personal victories was being instrumental in establishing proper lighting facilities at the astroturf, which enables more practice time for the various teams.

His most memorable moments were when the Madibaz men’s team won their fifth consecutive EP premier league title and the women claimed the title in 2019 after a five-year streak of runner-up finishes.

According to Cheslyn, the secret ingredients to being a good manager is a touch of passion mixed with the ability to adapt to changing times.

Cheslyn will now coach the side at the World Cup in India in January.
