Claasen, the Madibaz Debating Union Treasurer and a member of the Union for the past four years, also broke as one of the best adjudicators at the tournament.

“I was extremely excited to have broken at the tournament and then after the break being able to judge the quarter, semi and even Open Final of the tournament,” Diane said.

She also chaired all the preliminary rounds, in addition to being the Championship Equity Officer, ensuring that all participants felt safe throughout. She was also responsible for the competence of the Equity Team, as well as all Equity-related matters at the tournament.

Last year, at SAUDC 2025, Claasen was elected to the Southern African Universities Debating Council as the Equity Officer. This council is responsible for the effective managing and running of the SAUDC tournament and the general debating-related matters within South Africa, as well as dealing with any major issues within the South African debating circuit, Diane says.

Sino, also a Law student, is the Madibaz Debate Union Chairperson and assessed the standard of adjudication throughout the tournament.
