Mandela University’s George Campus recently hosted a celebration for 21 small business owners from the Garden Route District, who received certificates for completing the ACSA George Business Chamber Entrepreneur Programme.

The six-week programme provided entrepreneurs with essential business skills and strategies to help them grow their businesses and strengthen the local economy.

George Campus Senior Director Dr Kaluke Mawila, welcomed and congratulated guests and praised the entrepreneurs for their commitment to advancing their skills and emphasised the importance of empowering local business owners in the Garden Route District.

Among the graduates, Themkosi "Benson" Mkize of Kwanonqaba Industries Eden Tyres was announced as the winner of the The Entrepreneur 2024.  

In a video clip from the event, Mkize expressed his appreciation to Dr Mawila and the George Campus for hosting a programme that has made a real difference to his business.

"This programme has been invaluable," Mkize shared. "It’s given me the skills and confidence I need to drive my business forward. I’m grateful to Nelson Mandela University and the George Business Chamber for this opportunity."

The skills programme ranges from financial planning and digital marketing to operational management. Through interactive workshops and hands-on sessions, participants were able to develop practical knowledge and networks, positioning them for greater success within the region’s competitive market.

Dr Mawila highlighted the University's commitment to supporting entrepreneurship in the region, noting, "These business owners are a vital part of our local economy, and our role as a university is to empower them with tools and knowledge that drive both their personal growth and broader community development.

The success of this programme confirms the collaboration between the University, ACSA, and the George Business Chamber."
