Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP: Mandela University Project Leader for the Open Education Influencers, Gino Fransman, has been appointed to the Board of Advisors on UNESCO’s international open education programme, Open Education for a Better World (OE4BW).

Gino was nominated to serve based on his activities and accomplishments in advancing Open Education in South Africa and globally, particularly regarding OE4BW and his involvements in the Open Education Global Conference.

OE4BW is a global online mentoring programme helping developers from all over the world to implement their open education strategies. All accepted projects must have contents related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the three rounds of the programme so far there have been 257 developers and mentors involved from 35 countries, developing 125 projects altogether. Matilda Smith, Director of the Law Clinic at Mandela University, also participated in 2020.

Advisory Board members - through their network of professionals – help the organisation to reach the most relevant sources of information in their communities.

“We have been incredibly busy this year with lockdown making us even more prolific and active. Our online empowerment course for student advocacy is receiving some wonderful attention and we are excited about what the future holds in this area” said Gino.
