Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP: Honours student in Development Studies, Thembelani Sikilishe, has been selected as a finalist in the 2019 South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA). The final competition will be held at the end of this month In Mahikeng, North West.

Known as DJ Jikijwa on the airwaves, Thembelani is a Maskandi Radio presenter at Ngqushwa FM 99.50. Growing up in Willowvale in the Eastern Cape, Thembelani learned to love Maskanda  music and really enjoys presenting it on radio.

The SATMA Awards first started in 2006 to bring all races and ethnic groups together through the celebration of our diverse musical cultures The Awards give traditional music its rightful status and role in South African Arts & Culture in the preservation of our Heritage. They are pitched at a national level with the slogan “My Culture, Your Culture, One Nation - in line with the vision which seeks to unify all ethnic and racial groups as well as Africans within the Diaspora through traditional music and heritage.
