Change the world

28/01/2021

As academic activities resume towards the conclusion of the extended 2020 academic year and preparation for 2021, work is under way at Nelson Mandela University concerning student access matters. These include registration and the requisite financial aid from the National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

The University’s Financial Aid office is working to iron out student funding matters towards ensuring registration for the 2021 academic year to those whose NSFAS applications have been successful.

As a result of the extended 2020 academic year, returning students are still in the process of concluding their 2020 studies, with the results to be released on 22 February 2021. For new students, many of whom were in matric last year, the final matric results will be released on 23 February 2021.

This, of course, means the final lists of funded students can only be loaded in full thereafter, when NSFAS has sent through the confirmed list of funded students.

Students are therefore requested to kindly note the following as it relates to their funding statuses.

Senior Students

  • There are some faculties that have completed the 2020 academic year, while others are still busy finalising outstanding academic activities.
  • The University’s Financial Aid office will begin uploading all academic results templates from the first week of February 2021 for those students who have completed the academic year and do not have any pending re-assessments.
  • If the students meet the NSFAS Progression Rules, NSFAS will record the approved students on the NSFAS Funded List, which will allow the Financial Aid office to load the necessary registration statuses for Academic and Accommodation.

New Students

  • The matric results will only be available from 23 February 2021 and thereafter, the University’s Admissions office can finalise applicants’ admission status to the University.
  • The Financial Aid office will start uploading all admission data lists from 23 February 2021, and thereafter NSFAS will finalise the funding statuses for 2021.

Students who have applied to NSFAS for their 2021 studies are urged to regularly monitor the myNSFAS Portal to check that the Funded Status has been confirmed by NSFAS for the 2021 academic year.

It is important to note that the Financial Aid office does not receive and process NSFAS applications and works with confirmed funding statuses as received from the national financial aid scheme. That said however, Financial Aid remains committed to helping students to access the funding assistance for which they qualify.
