A 40-minute documentary entitled "Origins: an investigation into Khoi-San heritage sites" (NRF-Nelson Mandela University) concludes three years of research about the pre-colonial First Indigenous Peoples heritage places in the Eastern Cape province, premiered on 21 October at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum in Gqeberha.  

The research group that realised this documentary is led by Architecture’s Dr Magda Minguzzi and was formed in 2015. It is comprised of leaders of the KhoiSan communities living in Nelson Mandela Bay and its vicinity in the Eastern Cape province, namely Gaob Thomas Augustus, Gaos Jean Burgess, Gaos Margaret Coetzee, Paramount Chief William Human, Gaob Daantjie Japhta, Gaob Brato Malgas, Xam ≠ Gaob Maleiba, Paramount Chief Gert Cornelius Steenkamp, Chief Wallace Williams and Gaob Michael Williams. Mandela Uni staff and students also formed part of the research.  

The documentary received the endorsement of important international institutions, among others, the IPACC-Indigenous Peoples of Africa Co-ordinating Committee, the EC Khoisan Provincial Executive, the Wilderness Foundation Africa, ICOMOS-ICHAM, the International Council on Monuments and Sites, and SAN Parks. 

"Origins: an investigation into Khoi-San heritage sites" can be viewed at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum, 1 Park Drive Gqeberha from 2 to 30 November.
