Change the world

Third year media and communication students created exciting ideas for children’s mask fabric patterns, had them made up and donated them to a primary school in Bethelsdorp.

The Audiovisual Presentation Design students from the Department of Media and Communication voluntarily applied their symbolic representation ideas to children’s mask fabric patterns.

Mrs Tarryn Rennie, Lecturer and Dr Subeshini Moodley, Head of Department thought it would be great to give the children something to smile about by wearing these fun, patterned face masks. The designs were printed onto double layered, washable fabric. Each mask is supplied with a washable, reusable filter and adjustable toggle to ensure a snug, secure and comfortable fit.

This wonderful, collaborative effort supported by Professor Marius Crous, Director of the School of Language, Media and Communication allowed the department the opportunity to donate these 150 children’s masks to the Alfonso Arries Primary School in Bethelsdorp, Port Elizabeth.

This initiative firmly supports the University's #MaskUpMandela campaign.
