The University’s Universal Accessibility and Disability Services (UADS) has purchased a brand-new Toyota Quantum bus, a first for the Unit as its previous vehicle was donated. This new, state-of-the-art vehicle will be used by our on-campus students who find it difficult or struggle to use the student shuttle, enabling them to be transported to medical appointments, go grocery shopping, attend lectures or practicals and participate in on-campus activities.
The vehicle has been adapted with a wheelchair hoist, allowing a wheelchair user to make use of the vehicle. It can take up to six occupants with one wheelchair user.
This vehicle will have a positive impact in the academic and student life of our differently abled students.
Furthermore, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Mzukisi Malgas as the Unit’s new Transport Facilitator.
