The lecture, coordinated by the Raymond Mhlaba Centre for Governance and Leadership (RMC) under the Faculty of Humanities, forms part of a series established in 2021 to promote dialogue on ethical, accountable and values-driven leadership in society.
The 2026 theme, “Ethical Leadership and Women’s Economic Empowerment: Reimagining Inclusive Economies and Institutions for a Just Society,” will explore how values-based leadership can reshape institutions and economic systems to advance inclusion, accountability and social justice.
Dr Ntombifuthi Mtoba, a respected business leader, chartered accountant and governance expert, will deliver the keynote address. She has held several senior leadership roles, including Chairperson of Deloitte Southern Africa and President of Business Unity South Africa, and is the founder of TEACH South Africa, an organisation focused on educational development.
In 2025, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Accounting by Nelson Mandela University in recognition of her contributions to corporate governance, education and social equity.
Respondents Dr Dikeledi Mokoena (University of Johannesburg) and Dr Jasmine Kinsman (Nelson Mandela University) will enrich the discussion, while Dr Ongama Mtimka, Acting Director of the RMC, will serve as programme director.
The Annual Lecture brings together students, academics, professionals and members of the public to engage critically with contemporary leadership challenges.
