Nelson Mandela University is all set to continue its Autumn Graduation season with the capping of more than 7500 students, including 49 doctoral recipients, in 19 ceremonies from 13 to 26 April.

The University capped 465 students at its George Campus this week – the first cohort of students to graduate on the actual campus in the recently repurposed Furntech building, now called the George Campus Auditorium.

Among those to graduate will be 195 master’s students from across the institution’s seven faculties, starting on Wednesday, 13 April at the Indoor Centre on South Campus.

Mandela University’s Chancellor Dr Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sibongile Muthwa will preside over the ceremonies, along with other office bearers from the institution.

Tickets

Each graduate has been assigned a maximum of four tickets for their guests. This is to ensure that the institution complies with safety regulations in terms of numbers.

The University will live stream all ceremonies for the benefit of those who are unable to attend.

Photography

The University has a new official Graduation photographer, GP Harris, who will professionally capture proceedings for every candidate. In addition, they offer the opportunity for family photographs after each session.

In line with the institution’s ethos of accessibility and social justice, a limited number of entrepreneurial photographers have been accredited to offer a service to graduates and their families. These photographers have been restricted to certain areas close to the Indoor Centre.

Graduation attire

Croft, Magill and Watson will be on site to support students with the purchase or loan of graduation attire. Students are urged to collect their attire well in advance of the ceremonies.    

Come early

Likewise, given the large numbers of students and their families who will be gathering for each ceremony, you are urged to arrive early. The parking areas are some distance from the hall.
