Change the world

08/06/2020

The theme of UN World Oceans Day 2020 is “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean.” Innovation—relating to the introduction of new methods, ideas, or products — is a dynamic term, and one that is fundamentally filled with hope.

Why do we celebrate World Oceans Day? A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival. Every year, World Oceans Day provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared ocean. The ocean is important because it:

  • Generates most of the oxygen we breathe
  • Helps feed us
  • Regulates our climate
  • Cleans the water we drink
  • Offers a pharmacopoeia of medicines
  • Provides limitless inspiration
To mark this occasion, Nelson Mandela University's Institute for Coastal and Marine Research (CMR) hosted a competition with three categories of Art, Poetry and Images. Attached are the winners. You will also find attached, the latest One Ocean Hub newsletter.
