Reasons to be Proud (R2bP): Congratulations to two of our recent Alumni who have been awarded the prestigious Mandela Rhodes Scholarship for their 2018 postgraduate studies.

Zanele Mkele (left) will pursue an Honour’s In Development studies at UCT and Mikaela Oosthuizen (centre) will be doing a Master’s in Media Studies at WITS.

Odwour Midigo (right) from Kenya, will be joining Nelson Mandela University to pursue a Master’s degree in Dietetics.

The trio went through a rigorous selection process that saw thousands of registrations of interest whittled down to only 71 students from all over the African continent.

The Mandela Rhodes Foundation aims to build exceptional leadership capacity in Africa by offering fully funded scholarships for Honours and Master's studies. This includes a year-long leadership development programme based on the Foundation’s four principles – leadership, education, reconciliation and entrepreneurship.

Among the stringent criteria applicants should meet is a history of academic results that are well above average as well as traits that reflect commitment to the four principles.

In addition to covering tuition and study material costs, the scholarship will provide allowances for accommodation and meals, travel, medical aid and a personal allowance.

Well done!
