Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s (NMMU) admissions staff are utilising all available resources and working around the clock to process the tens of thousands of applications that have come through this year for 2017 studies.

The University has to date received in excess of 100 000 applications for next year’s studies, with the recent 6-week shutdown and resultant inability to access offices having led to a delay in the process.

Committed to ensuring that the #FeesMustFall student protests and ensuing shutdown do not adversely affect the 2017 intake, the University has effected the necessary interventions to ensure the admissions backlog is effectively dealt with.

These include the deployment of additional manpower from other University departments as well as contract staff to speed up the processing of applications. Admissions office work stations have also been set up at some of the other campuses as a means to distribute labour.

NMMU is therefore well equipped to manage the admissions backlog and will communicate application outcomes before the University breaks for the Summer recess.

All efforts are being made to ensure that this has no bearing on first-year orientation, registration and the start of the 2017 academic year.
